Create Project Templates with the Templates for OmniFocus Plug-In

Learn how to create and customize project templates using Kaitlin Salzke’s excellent Templates for OmniFocus plug-in.

OmniFocus Plug-Ins extend OmniFocus’ capabilities. You can write your own plug-ins or install and use plug-ins that others have written. The OmniFocus Plug-In Directory contains some of our favourite plug-ins.

Among our favourite plug-ins is Kaitlin Salzke’s Templates for OmniFocus plug-in. Use this plug-in to create template-based projects quickly. Having well-thought-out templates as the basis for new projects helps ensure these projects go smoothly. As you enhance these templates, you’re building on experiences gleaned from past iterations of these projects.

Installing, Configuring and Using the Templates for OmniFocus Plug-In

Watch this video to learn how to install and configure Templates for OmniFocus plug-in. As the video notes, you’ll need to install Kaitlin’s Synced Preferences Plug-In to use Templates for OmniFocus and some of her other plug-ins. You’ll find instructions and install links for both plug-ins in the OmniFocus Plug-In Directory.

This video also demonstrates how to transform an existing project into a template, substituting specific project elements with placeholders. We also delve into its more advanced functionality, including date calculations and optional tasks.
