Turns action items in a photo, screenshot, or image file into OmniFocus actions.
This shortcut turns action items in an image, such as a photo of handwritten notes or a screenshot of meeting notes, into OmniFocus actions. The actions are added to an action group in your OmniFocus Inbox for you to review. Headings on the page become action groups, and items that are checked off or crossed out are skipped.
For example, use your iPhone camera to turn handwritten meeting notes into OmniFocus actions. Run the shortcut, choose Take Photo, and photograph the page. The actions appear in your OmniFocus Inbox, grouped under the page title and headings.
You can also take a screenshot of all or part of your Mac screen, such as meeting notes in a Google Doc, and copy it to the clipboard. Then run the shortcut to turn the notes into OmniFocus actions.
Using the Shortcut
Run the shortcut and choose Clipboard, Choose File, Choose Photo, or Take Photo. The actions are added to your OmniFocus Inbox, which then opens. You can also share an image to the shortcut from another app.
Action Group – Actions are added to an action group named “Actions from Image,” followed by the date and time. A title at the top of the page becomes an action group inside it, and headings become action groups below that.
Title – Each action starts with a verb. If an item doesn’t begin with one, a verb is added (e.g., “laundry” becomes “Do laundry”).
Completed Items – Items with a check mark, an X, or a line through them are skipped. Items that are circled, starred, underlined, or highlighted are added.
Note – Details in a separate column, such as a time or priority in a table, are added to the note field.
Images – The shortcut uses one image at a time. It works best with one page of notes per image. A photo of several separate notes, such as a group of sticky notes, may give mixed results.
Customizing the Shortcut
To change the action group name (e.g., to use another language), edit the Text action at the top of the shortcut. Keep Current Date in the text if you’d like the date and time included.
