Add OmniFocus Action from Safari

How To Use Shortcuts

This Shortcut is available for Members only

Creates an OmniFocus action from the web page you’re viewing in Safari.

This shortcut creates an OmniFocus action that links to the webpage you’re currently viewing in Safari. For example, if you’re looking at an article that you need to read to prepare for an upcoming meeting, run this shortcut to add an action to your OmniFocus Inbox that references this article. When you configure the shortcut, you can specify which verb should precede the web page name and optionally specify the tag added to actions created by this shortcut.

In general, we recommend capturing actionable items to OmniFocus (e.g., Review Product Specifications) and using other apps to store non-actionable items (e.g., links to articles to potentially share on your blog, possible place to visit on your next trip to Austria).

Initial Setup

You’ll be asked two questions when you install the shortcut. These answers can be changed later at the top of the shortcut by editing the corresponding Text action.

Verb – The word that begins each action created by the shortcut (e.g., “Review” in “Review OmniFocus Shortcuts Directory”).

Tag – The OmniFocus tag applied to each action created by the shortcut. This tag needs to already exist in OmniFocus and won’t be created automatically. Leave this field blank if you don’t want to apply a tag to actions created using this shortcut.

Using the Shortcut

Run the shortcut and an action is created in your OmniFocus Inbox. Page titles longer than 70 characters are shortened in the action title, and the note holds the title in full, along with the date and time of capture and a link back to the page. If the tag you specified isn’t found in your OmniFocus database, the action is created without a tag.

Mac – To create an action based on the current webpage, run the shortcut from Spotlight or the menu bar. Safari will be brought to the foreground if it’s in the background when you run this shortcut.

iPhone, iPad – To create an action based on the current webpage in Safari, tap Share, then choose this shortcut.
