Creates an OmniFocus action from the selected message in Apple Mail for Mac.
It’s sometimes helpful to create an OmniFocus action from an email, especially when the action is more involved or will be taken at a later date. This shortcut does that in one step: select a message, and an action is created in your OmniFocus Inbox that includes the email sender and subject, with additional details in the note, including a link that opens the original email.
Initial Setup
The first time you add the shortcut, it asks three questions. These answers can be changed later by editing the corresponding Text action at the top of the shortcut.
Verb – The word each action starts with (e.g., Contact).
Connector – The word between the sender’s name and the subject of the email (e.g., “about” in “Contact Johnny Appleseed about Friday’s meeting”).
Tag – The tag applied to every action the shortcut creates (e.g., Email). The tag needs to already exist in OmniFocus before running this shortcut. Leave it blank if you don’t want to tag actions created by this shortcut.
Using the Shortcut
Select a message in Apple Mail and run the shortcut. An action is created in your OmniFocus Inbox using the verb, connector, and tag you specified. If more than one message is selected, the action is created for the first one. If Apple Mail isn’t in the foreground when you run the shortcut, you’re prompted to confirm the new action.
Customizing the Shortcut
The note contains the sender, the date and time the message was sent, and a link to the original email. To change what it includes, edit the Text action that builds the note, near the end of the shortcut.
