Add Contact Action to OmniFocus

How To Use Shortcuts

This Shortcut is available for Members only

Creates an OmniFocus action to contact a person or organization.

This shortcut provides a quick and consistent way to create actions to contact people and organizations. Each action is named the same way (e.g., “Contact Bob about the proposal”), with the contact method (e.g., Email) optionally applied as a tag. Contact actions are added to your Inbox for further processing.

Before you run this shortcut for the first time, open Shortcuts › Settings › Advanced and turn on Allow Running Scripts. It’s turned off by default, and this shortcut won’t run without it.

Initial Setup

You’ll be asked three questions when you install the shortcut. You can change these answers later by editing the corresponding Text action at the top of the shortcut.

Verb – The word each action starts with (e.g., “Contact” in “Contact Bob about the proposal”).

Connector – The word that goes between the contact’s name and the purpose of the communication (e.g., “about” in “Contact Bob about the proposal”).

Communication Tag Group – It’s helpful to group different forms of communication in a tag group (e.g., a “Communication” tag group with Email, Phone, and Message tags). If you provide the name of an existing tag group, you’ll be prompted to choose a tag from this group. If you leave this blank, actions will be untagged.

Using the Shortcut

You’ll be asked who you’re contacting, what the contact is about, and when you need to contact them by. If you specified a tag group, you’ll be prompted to choose how you’ll get in touch with them (e.g., phone, email, message).

Specify a due date only if there’s a commitment to complete the communication by a specific date, and leave the question blank otherwise. The date accepts the same shorthand as OmniFocus (e.g., “sun”, “1w”, “sun 1w”, “Friday 14:00”) and takes your default due time when you don’t include one.
