OmniFocus 4 Workflows with David Sparks

May 30, 2024 | 10:00 am 11:00 am PDT

David Sparks (aka MacSparky) returns to Learn OmniFocus LIVE to share his OmniFocus 4 setup and workflows.

While David’s ideas about productivity and task management have changed over the last 15 years, his task manager has stayed the same. He’ll talk about how his use of OmniFocus has evolved over the years and why OmniFocus is still his personal task manager of choice. We’ll also get a taste of new and updated material to be introduced in the upcoming OmniFocus 4 Field Guide.

MacSparky is a strong proponent of the benefits of automation and makes good use of OmniFocus’ automation prowess. He’ll share some ways he’s using Shortcuts and Omni Automation to enhance his day-to-day use of OmniFocus.

About David Sparks

David Sparks’ history with technology dates back to the TRS-80 Color Computer he learned to program at his local Radio Shack in the early 1980s. He’s been using Apple computers since the Apple II and has been an avid Mac user since the early days of the Macintosh.

David has been sharing his enthusiasm for Apple technology on the MacSparky Blog since 2007. Over the years, he’s covered everything from simple tips and tricks to introspective articles on the impact of technology on society.

The success of the MacSparky Blog led to the launch of the Mac Power Users podcast in 2009. This podcast has become one of the world’s most popular Apple-centric technology podcasts. David’s podcast repertoire later expanded to include the excellent Automators and Focused podcasts.

David is also well known for his in-depth Field Guides. Collectively, these Field Guides cover a wide range of topics. There are Field Guides that centre around specific apps (e.g. Keyboard Maestro, Obsidian and OmniFocus) and the Productivity Field Guide, which draws from a well of ancient wisdom.

After 30 years as a lawyer, David put all his eggs into the MacSparky basket and expanded his offerings. This included introducing MacSparky Labs, where he offers a behind-the-scenes look at his technology experimentation and productive workflows.

David’s fascination with productivity goes beyond technology. He helps people do important and meaningful work with their Apple technology while avoiding the dark side of technology (cue the “Imperial March” from Star Wars. In David’s words: “I want to help you achieve what is most important to you and enjoy your life at the same time using technology instead of becoming another one of its victims. Pretty much everything I make points at that North Star”.

David calls Orange County, California home. He’s a husband, father, musician, craftsman, tea connoisseur, and an all-around great guy.
